   Good point Natalie. I forgot to include sources for some of these mirrors. Here you go (the first two, the coco stick and peacock feather ones, are covered in the post I think):Bone Inlay mirrors – Apart from Graham and Green, Wisteria has some of these. Also, I got an email from Sang and Serena, which sells beautiful bone inlay mirrors and furniture from India on its web site: mirrors – I got a plain black round mirror from Lamps Plus very cheaply. They don’t have the exact one any more but this is similar: another option is these beautiful hide mirrors from Tonic Home (MUCH pricier unfortunately): Hardware has a slightly cheaper alternative: Designs does some traditional-looking sunburst mirrors.Wisteria has a vintage-look one: also has a Venetian glass mirror: are also tons of Venetian glass mirrors on ebay, like this one: UK-based readers (no international shipping I’m afraid), Laura Ashley has sunburst, Venetian and white-framed mirrors: (horchow.com) has tons of fancy mirrors, including a great range of Venetian glass ones and baroque styles.Also, try Brocade Home for a more modern take on those white baroque mirrors: that helps!

   You really spruced up the room with the furniture back in. I noticed that mirror on the mantle really like it. Gracie is hooked on Frday Night Lights and had me watching it when I visited them in Feb. I liked the characters but like you can live without football. Guess you are at CNU now. Love Gma

   The mantle in the foyer. Does the interior shape of the mirror look familiar? It's the same shape as the No5 cap!

   I love tree trimmin' time, too, and I think we'll probably give it a go tomorrow night since we want to get the tree up early this year as we are heading out on a trip the day after Christmas. There are three private traditions I always indulge it as we trim the tree:

   1) I immediately somehow miraculously remember wherever it was I tucked away the extra ornament hooks the year before and go right to that little corner of the living room — in a drawer, behind some books, hidden behind the mirror on the mantle, wherever — and sure enough, there is the reminder of last year, untouched from the holiday before. As a bonus, I frequently discover some present from the year before that never made it to its intended recipient so we instantly have something to put beneath the tree.

   2) For some reason, the only songs I can sing on key (other than Gershwin) are Christmas carols. So I turn the radio station on (you know — the one that starts playing Christmas music in October) and I sing along as we decorate the tree. It's possibly the one time you can sing carols and not have someone make fun of your sentimentality or not remember the scene from Bridget Jones when she screams “Bugger off!” at the carolers… or the scene from my real life when my mother screamed downstairs to my father — with her bedroom wide open and overlooking the street — “Hide! It's those fucking carolers again!!”

   3) I have in my possession a cache of treasured Christmas ornaments handed down through the family. They are homemade and from the turn of the century (19th to 20th Century, you youngin's). They are made from the tops of old tin cans as the round base, with a scene from an old-time Christmas card cut and pasted on the metal circle on both sides and a piece of tinsel garland glued around the edges. I hang them with the same thin red yarn they've been hanging from for 110 years. Finding them amongst the boxes of ornaments gives me a chance to tell Zuzu all about her great-great grandfather Bill and how he was a lighthouse keeper on Lake Superior — and how her great-grandmother Ethel (still alive at age 101!) used to hang these from her own Christmas tree when she was Zuzu's age.

   Here's to tradition!

   All this family talk reminds me: go see “Everybody's Fine”!! It's not a comedy, but it is a very moving film about family and I loved every moment of it.
