Ambivalence is a good way to put it.If they're taking a shape (to get even more pretentious), it's one of incorporation on the part of the labels, both big and small. I mean, it was written in the stars that it would eventually happen, but it's slightly distressing to the purist side of me that content is being dictated from outside instead of inside. That said, I find equally interesting the forms that blogs have mutated into. There are the "mega-blogs", like GvB, YANP and MOKB, the more high-falootin', like StG and Fluxblog, and the stalwart daily papers, like LHB and CW. Then, all the entrepreneurs! In a lot of ways, blogs are a parallel form of promotion, and thus mirror, to a large degree, the fragmentative and niche-leaning tendencies of (post-modern) capitalism, broadly defined.

I do think there's a common theme running through many (if not most) mp3 blogs of self-deprecation toward any larger social/cultural “role”, which, of course they all have (some much more than others). Not only physically do I feel weak, but mentally as well and I don’t think I have ever felt this way before. I am scared and afraid of what is to come, we have sign of food, no sign of water and no sign of rescue. I just want to go home and get away from this place, I don’t know where I am or how much longer I will be here. It makes me sick to think about the reality of our situation, really there is no sign of hope. Last night was something I cannot even find words to describe. Never in my life have I experienced something so horrible and terrifying. The island storm was so powerful and nothing like I have seen before. This storm could have definitely been considered a tropical storm, which is far more dangerous than any regular storm. The wind was so strong, the sand was pelting against my face and the rain was soaking my body. Finding shelter was the hardest part, I spent the night behind a tree leaning against a rock. The trees were swaying in the wind and the leaves were being blown all over the place. If we are stranded on this island we need to be prepared and expect the unexpected. First, we will need to figure out who our leader will be and for others what their job will be. Also, shelters will need to be built, food gathered, fire wood collected and most importantly, we will need to find a source of fresh water on the island. I think that the leader of our group should be David, although my fellow group members may not agree with me, this is my opinion. David has great leadership skills and he seems like one of the only people in our group who stayed calmed and in control last night. This proves he can stay relaxed where others may panic, this shows his self control. He is strong and athletic and will be able to hunt well, build shelters, and gather materials. This is why I feel he would be the best leader for our group. We were fortunate enough to have all of our supplies still here this morning. The storm did not wipe away any of our materials needed for survival. Our supplies include: an ax, canned food, signal flares, water tanks, cooking pots, knives, first-aid kit, mirror, large plastic sheet and rope. We are lucky enough to have these supplies and I hope that they will not be wasted and that they will be used to their full capacity. I look into the near future and simply wonder how our new life on this island will take off. - Amanda

Day two on this island, I am feeling awful, I am parched, I am hungry and I am weak.
