Do you think that film directors should be allowed to show violence that is very real?
For my A2 coursework, I'm completing a research project on whether violence in films influences or mirrors violence in society.
Using films such as Eden Lake and Clockwork orange as examples, do you think that the directors should be allowed to use violence that could easily be copied - knife crime, torture in woods etc?
Do you think that they should be limited to fantasy, dramatised violence like thriller violence, car chase/ gun shoot outs that can easily be identified as for entertainment purposes?
Really appreciate any viewpoints 
right you can talk about the hypodermic needle theory and use the case of the jamie bulger incident where two young boys watched an 18 rated horror film with extreme violence and copied parts of it with a real boy. however you can argue this is a one off incident where the adults who owned the film were not careful enough and that age ratings are there for a reason.
also we all know films arent real. we are given special features containing the making of and directors commentary so we are showed once more about the fakeness of the film itself.
violence is dramatised in films because many people are not familiar with it so it gives people a chance to see what itd be like without actually doing it. therefore violence in films is possibly safe? also the shock factor from these violent films will probably reduce the person's need to explore this violence in the real world and films often create empathy with certain characters. however it can be argued that if the main character is extremely violent that it could be seen as glamorizing violence and making the audience feel closer to the violent individual.
with your essay you should look at both points, give examples, and then come to a conclusion that is your own viewpoint and give your own honest opinion to why you've chosen that.
basically its down to the viewer, extreme violence is always going to be an 18 so an adult should be mature enough to not copy the film or get ideas from it. films can show violence, because its not real and not a threat, its a fantasy at the end of the day. how a viewer acts is not the film makers fault as that viewer has a moral choice after watching it. im sure people who have copied something from a film are already violent with a history of crime so the film didnt really do anything.
you could also explore what the difference between seeing violence acted in a film is different from seeing it on the news, in a book or in a video game? surely its less likely to affect someone as its not first person like in a game, or isnt highly detailed like a book.

How many times does Ohio State call you asking for money every month? For me it is at least twice. General fund, Honors and Scholars, college of arts and sciences, the list gores on and on. The amount of increased revenue by splitting up OSU-UM had better be so vast that it covers all university expenses from here on out, including tuition for every student. THAT is how much Ohio State – Michigan means to me. Sacrificing the Mirror Lake jump in freezing cold temps, the anticipation, the generally old and timeless feeling youb get walking around campus that week, almost like you can feel the generations of Buckeye anxiety before playing that school up north, just so Indiana can make a few extra thousand dollars is UNACCEPTABLE.

Funny thing is, the Penn State fan, my talking was motivational; it was a high school kid. I stopped for a Gu, and I overheard a girl telling her friend about the Mirror Lake jump, and a guy they where with screamed out “Go Michigan” which prompted me yell out O H…and I got an I O back. scUM man was then quiet.

Thanks, James! Seriously, I had no idea it was going to be that rough..my left arm is bruised up. We went 53 miles an hour, I believe. All I could think of was, “Hold on as tight as you can”..My husband and I were saying we thought you’d need to be in decent physical shape to do that..Mirror Lake Inn was fabulous. 73 mph!!! Hat off to you!!
I can't believe you were in upstate NY!! That's where Richard and I went on our honeymoon! We even stayed in Lake Placid at the Mirror Lake Inn. It was absolutely gorgeous in the Fall. Sounds like you had a great trip. We should try to get together soon!
