First it seems like it is a really clever idea, something different if I've read correctly. But it is confusing, I had to re-read and wonder how many other people this girl is. My first suggestion would be to ditch the first person. Because it seems to me (and I could be mislead) that these girls all share one body, and when not being used they are shoved away inside the mind. See the problem with this is you aren't being consistent with the character, just narrating whoever is dominant presently. I would either pick one of these girls or just go omniscient on all them in third person. I think it would make it flow better. Second do not be afraid to be obvious blunt, if you want it across don't be mysterious. Tell the reader what you want them to know for the most part. Of coarse for a good story not everything is going to be revealed but don't be afraid to point some things out. (Most everything you take time to write in a story should have a purpose later.)At one point you write: "Because Mom and Dad warned you that you are not to go out in your natural appearance, that its dangerous." I would elaborate on that. A memory so reason why this is dangerous. Because I have no clue from reading that. Telling why it is dangerous might give the reader some clue as to what is going on.Again I'm trying to keep in mind this is only an excerpt, and for that I can't give you a truly clear idea at this. If I understood more about these girls, perhaps I could help more. I hope I helped (you did say you wanted harsh criticism).

Alright lets see what I can help to suggest. I'm a California beach girl and love wandering for hours collecting shells. I'll have to share a pic of one of my shell-framed mirrors sometime soon.I rent a house to use as my office/studio space, and it's decorated in shabby beach style pulled together quickly when I first set it up. Lots of shells in baskets and surrounding candles on plates, and a nice variety of beachy photos and prints, all mixed in with overstuffed creamy white sofas (3 in all, none match, all from local consignment stores), lots of baskets, and all of my favorite things. And, currently, all under a foot or two of eBay items that need to be listed so I can reclaim my personal retreat space :o)Right here on my desk at home, I have a sweet pink heart print from Ikea ... a heart shape made from two scallop shells posed side-by-side. The print is really a 5" x 5" notecard, one of the ones from a pack of 5 cards with shell pics. If you have an Ikea nearby, they probably have this set of cards.Enough rambling, thanks again for stopping by, and have a great week!hugs,Victoria

I love the heart-of-shells, Patty. You are worse than me and I am always making selections under pressure, which is not always a good thing.First of all, don't sacrifice. Don't make a rushed decision to get something done, because it's on sale or it's in stock. You will regret it. Trust me on that. Here's my quick answers...note that it is 11:30 at night and I just happen to be a night owl :)You asked...Wouldn’t it look odd to have a fixture hanging from the ceiling over each mirror if we have canned lights? My answer: YES, If he made the decision for canned lights, you pretty much need to go with wall hung fixtures to complement, unless there's a great location in the center or over a tub for a chandelier...I'm a sucker for chandeliers and I like them with sconces as well! You said...He also proposed sconces (in lieu of hanging fixtures) but I don’t think this would work because because the countertop is L shaped with 2 sinks. When you enter the room, there is a sink directly to your right and the other one directly in front. There is very little wall space between where a mirror would go over the sink to the right and the wall. There would be room for sconces on both sides of a mirror directly in front. But I’m not sure we should have sconces next to one mirror but not the other. I have not picked out mirrors yet (we bought some but I think they may be too small for the wall space and L-shaped cabinets and countertop). My Answer: If the can lights are placed over the sink, they will provide plenty of light and wall lights above a mirrow will possibly be too much. I like the sconces purely from an aethetic point and to provide a bit more lighting. I am not so stuck on treating everything equal (balancing out things) and possibly one sconce would be nice, but I speaking without photo's.As far as mirrors, you probably are wanting framed mirrors for an updated look and something different, but don't forget that if you a did a wrap of counter to ceiling mirror, a sconce or two could be mounted directly on the mirror which can be kind of glam. Please make sure that the electrician does everything on dimmers. Even over a tub...why? Why not...it give you options!Good luck! let me know what you decide to do!

Sheila, sheila, sheila…you have to make a choice tonight? We moved into the FUGLIEST old house ever. LR had orange stained pine planks on the walls. Super high ceiling, but it was falling apart, a ghastly torn up linoleum floor. We sanded, primed and painted the walls, then painted the high ceiling a darker contrasting color. Tore up the linoleum to find 1910 raw fir floors underneath. We finished the floors ourselves, now a shiny deep brown. Our friends & family were stunned at what we did with the place.

Just livening up drab rooms with paint is a huge *wow* in decorating on the cheap. I used to live in a fantastic 4-flat in Chicago. Oak everything, claw-foot tub, the works and I LOVED IT. Just before we put our house on the market we had a stager come in. She made us take down and put away like, EVERYTHING. I don't believe in painting walls, I just hang art (looks like you do too). Anyway, it opened up the space a ton and now I'm rethinking my massive clutter too. But then again, we're moving. I like the rug. A lot. Keeps stuff vintage and cool. Definitely liking the painting of the sideboard idea. It looks like it has brass fixtures? As does that funkadelic, hot-to-death lamp? You could also do a cool matte brass metallic paint on the black framed mirror. Then it would coordinate, not be matchy-match and lighten things up some more. T30SB's 2 cents.

Oh, I love old built-ins! I used to live in a fantastic 4-flat in Chicago. Oak everything, claw-foot tub, the works and I LOVED IT. Just before we put our house on the market we had a stager come in. She made us take down and put away like, EVERYTHING. I don’t believe in painting walls, I just hang art (looks like you do too). Anyway, it opened up the space a ton and now I’m rethinking my massive clutter too. But then again, we’re moving.
