Cabinet mirror
any advice for installing a new bathroom medicine cabinet?
my girlfriend wants a new medicine cabinet (the kind with a mirror the goes over the bathroom sink). I foolishly said "thats easy, i can do it for you." it is not recessed so can i just go to Home Depot and have her pick one out? Is it easy just to screw into the wall? Any thing i should watch out for? Help!!!
It is fairly easy. I locate the studs in the wall, predrill some holes in the cabinet to correspond with stud locations and use screws to attach it to the wall.
I would be the pro that gets the calls, have done it many times.

Up until last week the only mirror we had was a little medicine cabinet mirror in the bathroom above the sink, so all I could see was from my shoulders up. Then my sis-in-law bought me one of those really long mirrors to hang on the back of your door, and I'm kinda depressed to be able to see my full body.

Up until last week the only mirror we had was a little medicine cabinet mirror in the bathroom above the sink, so all I could see was from my shoulders up. Then my sis-in-law bought me one of those really long mirrors to hang on the back of your door, and I'm kinda depressed to be able to see my full body.
From the size of the holes you are describing I would say you have two options.
1. Fill the holes with standard spackling and make your new mounting holes in a spot with non-damaged drywall. Such as a little higher, lower, left, or right.
2. Fill the holes with epoxy putty. This is available at most hardware/home improvement stores. It is an epoxy that normally comes in a tube and you slice a piece off the size you need. This putty has two layers, generally the inside and outside layers are different colors. You work the putty and mix the two layers together to activate the hardener. Once mixed you can use this to fill your holes. It will dry rock hard normally within an hour. It can be sanded and painted. In order to mount in this product you will need to pre-drill a hole as it will be too hard to put a screw in without pre-drilling.
I have done a combination of these two in the past and filled the hole with spackling, let it dry, then mounted a bracket for my towel rod with this epoxy putty. If I ever need to remove it I will have to use a putty knife and a hammer. Once this was all set, I can tell you it wasn't going anywhere. My kids can hang from that towel bar. I'm just not going to tell them that or I'm sure I'll be repairing other fixtures!

This reminds me of a solution I came up with when patching a larger hole in drywall. I put a screw half way into a scrap of plywood that was a bit wider than the hole, but would fit sideways thru the hole.
Then I pushed the wood thru the hole, holding on to the screw as a handle. I plastered the hole using the plywood as a back stop and let it dry totally. Then I took the screw out of the wall with a screwdriver and patched the small screw hole.
I hope I described this well enough to get the idea across.

Thanks Kim.I have so much from that store-a gorgeous vanity, wine cabinet, mirrors, many lamps, pictures, bowls, etc. I was so so sad when they closed their stores. Their products were priced fairly and I couldn’t find pieces like that to decorate with in other stores. We had renovated our home, because it was a horrible repo, and boy did they come in handy! Will have to tell my Mom and hubby the good news!

The mirror and photographs both depict a three dimensional object on a two dimensional medium. So, it can't be a true representation.In Real Life you see the object in all its dimensions with full range of tonal values, without resorting to HDR technique.
In short, the way the eye sees an object and the mind comprehends it, can't be replicated , in any medium, with the available technologies.

You might be able to use toggle bolts. They come in many different sizes. They have metal wings that spread open after you push them through the hole.
I hate those medicine cabinet mirrors, like what if you close it and killers behind you…
